Boost Your Mental Health as a Self-Employed Business Owner

It’s been a while since I’ve paused to reflect on how crucial mental health is — especially when balancing work, home, and community life as a self-employed business owner.
Running your own business can feel isolating, especially when most of your time is spent in a home office. Remote work is incredibly convenient — and the world has adjusted to it since COVID — but it can make it easy to forget the power of real human connection.
As I’ve shared before, building a strong mental health mindset has been essential for me. Of course, there are still moments of doubt — like wondering what’s next when a project ends — but I’ve learned to lean on my network. Talking to fellow consultants, setting clear new objectives, and even strengthening my website with a mission and values have all helped me keep moving forward with purpose.
Recently, I’ve felt an extra boost of motivation thanks to my wife’s incredible journey. She took a leap into a new venture she’d been thinking about for a while — and the change in her has been amazing: weight loss, new energy, a more positive mindset, and no more naps during the day! Seeing her transformation made me look at my own mental and physical wellbeing, especially after I felt disappointed with my Brighton marathon time and the usual juggling act of work and home life.
Now, I’m proud to be on this journey with her. We’ve both joined a local community called Red Lodge Nutrition, which is part of the Herbalife group. Unlike other plans we’d tried, this community approach feels different — it’s supportive, energetic, and tailored to each person’s goals, whether that’s losing weight, gaining weight, improving fitness, or just feeling better every day.
The biggest difference for me? The people. Having early morning workouts with a local group, regular club mornings, weigh-ins, social chats, and healthy breakfasts has done wonders for my mindset. It gets me out of my home office and reminds me how important it is to stay connected.
The plan focuses on daily nutrition and wellbeing — for us, that means meal replacement shakes, protein-rich snacks, lots of water (I drink about 4 litres a day!), and regular check-ins to measure progress. It’s about balance: 80% nutrition, 20% exercise. And the results speak for themselves — we’re both calmer, more focused, and full of energy to tackle our goals together.
For me, this isn’t just about the shakes — it’s about being part of a community that lifts you up and keeps you accountable. It’s about showing up for myself, my family, my clients, and my dreams.
If you’re feeling stuck, isolated, or just ready for a fresh start, I’d love to invite you to join us on this journey. You can find out more on our Facebook page Red Lodge Nutrition or reach out to me directly.
Here’s to better mental health, stronger connections, and a renewed sense of purpose!
