Challenges and Triumphs of Starting a New Business Service

It’s been a while since my last self-reflection post — and wow, what a journey it’s been since then.

Running your own business truly becomes real when you hit that point where everything feels like it’s in motion at once. Recently, I moved into a new office, and it’s been a game-changer. Having a space away from home means I can properly focus — no distractions from cleaning, tidying toys, or fixing that one shelf that’s been waiting for weeks!

Working from home still has its moments, but the balance between home and work feels much better now.

That said, like every founder or self-employed person, I still struggle to switch off completely. My wife and I have also started a new journey in health and wellbeing — another venture we’re really passionate about. People often ask, “How do you fit it all in?”

My honest answer: somehow, I just do. But it comes with challenges.

Rest and recovery are vital, yet ironically, I’m not the best at taking my own advice. My mind tends to race — even on weekends when I should be sleeping, I often find myself up in the early hours working through ideas or tasks. It’s something I know I need to get better at — learning to slow down and recharge.

On the business front, there’s been so much to feel proud of lately. I’ve recently started sponsoring the Waterbeach Colts Under 13s Football Team, which connects perfectly with my passion for grassroots sport — more on that soon when the kit arrives! ⚽

But the biggest (and most challenging) milestone has been launching a new service — offering start-ups and small businesses access to a rented Electronic Document Management System (EDMS) at a significantly reduced cost compared to existing providers.

This will help new clients manage their compliance documentation efficiently and give me more tools to support them better and faster.

It’s a huge investment — both financially and mentally — and as many small business owners will relate, that comes with its fair share of sleepless nights and self-doubt. Add in VAT quarter pressures, and you definitely start to question your decisions. But that’s the reality of entrepreneurship — the highs, the worries, and the drive to keep pushing forward.

This is probably the most challenging phase I’ve faced so far, but it’s also one of the most exciting. The opportunity to help more clients, expand services, and build something sustainable keeps me moving forward.

So here’s to the next chapter — new challenges, new clients, and continuing to grow, one step at a time.

Onwards and upwards, as they say! 🚀
